Kids need plenty of nutritious food to keep them healthy and active. Unfortunately, the abundance of sugary cereals, fast food commercials and other high calorie snacks can make it difficult to for kids to eat the right types of foods.
Fast food chains trick our kids by promising bright, shiny toys, so how can a mom compete? Well, I’m sure you’ve heard of the many cookbooks and recipes out there that sneak in healthy fruits and veggies into every day meals. Chocolate chip & zucchini muffins, homemade Popsicles and pureed veggie pasta sauces are all great ways to keep meals kid-friendly and nutritious.
But isn’t there a better way? A way we can get kids to ask for fruits and veggies, instead of tricking them into it?
A recent study conducted by Time found children who participated in gardening for 12 weeks actually doubled their intake of fruits and vegetables! Learning where fruits and veggies come from, and having an active role in the process made eating the end product very exciting for kids. Gardening season is just around the corner, so ask your kids for a helping hand!
Square off a small section so your child can take ownership over the process.
If you don’t have a garden, try a few plant pots out on the balcony.
If that’s not an option, join a community garden.
Talk to your child’s teacher, gardening would make for a fun class activity.
Take a day trip to your nearest fruit farm to pick some berries.

It’s spring, so it must be time for the Canada Fitness Program! Established by Participaction, the Canada Fitness Program is an annual fitness test conducted in schools to measure children’s fitness. It’s also a great way to educate, encourage and motivate kids to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle. A recent study found that 1 out of 5 four-year-olds are obese! This is a shocking figure and clearly shows the need for more activity in our daily lives.
At Agoo, our motto is “stay out and play”, and our unique line of activewear for kids allows them to stay out and play longer, in style and comfort! With help from Participaction, we’ve put together a list of fun activities you can do as a family to stay active this season!
Invite your family to walk your dog, if you don’t have one, go on a family walk anyway!
Dance! Throw on some upbeat music and dance with your family for 15 minutes. This is really good exercise, and really great fun!
Get out and play! – Tag, catch, skip rope – oh, the memories…
Make a snowman, snow fort or igloo – I know it’s spring, but in most parts of Canada this is still an option!
Go to the swimming pool – Studies show swimming is the best form of exercise.
Take advantage of local parks and playgrounds- great way to stay active, and socialize!
