They say, “You are what you eat.” We can’t argue with that sentiment, especially in the case of breakfast, our favorite meal of the day. Luckily for us, breakfast also happens to be the most important meal of the day. Not only does a good, healthy breakfast give your kids fuel in the morning, it also helps them to maintain healthy weights and to stay focused at school. However, not all breakfasts are made equal so here are some tips to ensure that your little ones are getting all the nutrients they need to stay ahead of the game:
- Nix those sugar-laden cereals in exchange for whole grain granolas, high-fibre cereals, and oatmeal.
- Try a slice of whole-wheat toast with jam instead of a pop-tart.
- Opt for low-fat milk.
- Include at least one serving of fruit.
- Eggs are an excellent of protein that, in turn, powers the brain.
- Yogurt is loaded with pro-biotics which help to regulate digestion.
